What is Good For Nothing?
Good for Nothing is a creative and marketing volunteer event where professionals donate their time and skills to help local non-profits with marketing and creative needs. From logo and web design to social media plans and marketing strategy, non-profits get help from our area’s most talented pros — all for free!
Think of this event like a 24-hour pop-up ad agency. Teams of volunteers group up to work one-on-one with a local non-profit. Over the course of a day, incredible work is done to create assets and meet the goals of the organizations in need.

While we sometimes refer to this as a “24-Hour Gig”, it’s really a couple of hours on Friday night, and then all morning and afternoon the following day.
Everyone gets together on the Friday night of the event to meet one another, meet the selected non-profits, and break out into teams. A game plan for Saturday is made and then everyone goes home to get some sleep before the event on Saturday.
Saturday morning, everyone gets back together and gets to work. By mid-afternoon, all projects are expected to be finished. Representatives from our non-profits come back to see the work that has been done. The day ends with all groups presenting their work and handing off what they made to the non-profits. And that’s it!
Yes! We welcome college level students to sign up as volunteers.
Whether you’re almost done with your degree or program, or just getting started, our teams are typically comprised of a mix of professionals and students who work together to fulfill the requests of our non-profits.
Snacks and drinks will be available the entire event AND breakfast and lunch will be provided on Saturday.
We will have a variety of snack foods to graze upon the entirety of the event plus a wide variety of drinks to choose from. We’ll even have some alcoholic beverages on hand for our 21+ aged volunteers.
Short answer = yes.
That being said, if something comes up like an emergency or you just need to run home quickly, that’s no problem. Just make sure to communicate with your group so that way tasks can be tackled effectively.
If you know you won’t be able to participate the entirety of the event but would still like to volunteer, just let us know ahead of time so we can plan accordingly.
Any and all non-profits in the Fargo / Moorhead area
So long as the business or organization is a non-profit and operates out of the Fargo-Moorhead area, they are able to be nominated.
Members of AAF-ND will vote to decide which non-profits are selected.
Once nominations close, members of AAF-ND will be send the list of nominees to make their votes for which non-profits they would like to see selected. The non-profits with the most votes will be selected.
Between 3 – 5 non-profits.
Depending on the number of expected volunteers, we will select up to 5 non-profits from our list of nominees. We like to make sure each non-profit would have a full team of volunteers (4 to 5 volunteers).
At least 1 representative from each non-profit will be asked to participate in the event.
Representatives will be asked to join us on Friday evening to meet their volunteer groups, explain their requests, and answer questions. On Saturday, representatives are asked to be reachable by phone or text, but are not asked to return until that afternoon when work has been finished and is ready for presenting.
The sky is the limit when it comes to what can be requested so long as it’s marketing or creative related.
That being said, volunteers only have about 7-8 hours to do work. Requests must be reasonable and able to be accomplished in that time. You’d be surprised what can be done in 8 hours though.
If your non-profit is selected, our team will work with you to prepare your “ask” to make sure it is achievable.
